"The Poet" is a serialized true crime docudrama from Sony Music Entertainment and New Metric Media, part of The Binge Crimes network. Set in 1977 Wichita during the height of the BTK Strangler's terror, the series follows Ruth Finley, a grandmother targeted by an anonymous blackmailer who escalates from menacing phone calls to threatening poems and violent attacks. Blending real investigative details with tense, narrative storytelling, the show explores whether Ruth's tormentor is connected to BTK or is an entirely separate, equally chilling predator. Episodes unfold with a slow-burn, suspenseful pacing reminiscent of investigative crime dramas, weaving in police procedural elements, psychological manipulation, and small-town paranoia of the era. Ideal for fans of atmospheric true crime storytelling, cold case mysteries, and character-driven investigative journalism, the podcast appeals to listeners drawn to shows like "In the Dark" or "Serial." With short, tightly produced episodes and a strong sense of place and period, "The Poet" distinguishes itself through its intimate focus on one woman's ordeal within the shadow of a notorious serial killer's legacy.
