Airbnb is a global online marketplace founded in 2007 in San Francisco by Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia, and Nathan Blecharczyk. Initially starting as a way to rent air mattresses during a design conference, it has grown into a platform that connects millions of hosts and guests around the world. The company launched its website in 2008 and rebranded to Airbnb in 2009, expanding its offerings to include entire homes, apartments, and unique vacation rentals.

Airbnb facilitates short-term lodging rentals by connecting hosts who list their properties with guests seeking accommodations. The platform offers a variety of options, including entire homes, private rooms, and unique stays like treehouses and boats. Additionally, Airbnb provides experiences hosted by locals and partners with cities for disaster relief housing. With over 5 million hosts in nearly 100 countries, Airbnb has become a significant player in the sharing economy, offering travelers flexible and often more affordable lodging options compared to traditional hotels.
